If you want to learn about Sendai’s history and culture, do explore the museums dotted across the city. There are many museums ideal for both family and individuals to enjoy all day long.
Sendai City Museum has a lot of precious exhibits, including armor of feudal lord Date Masamune and “Materials related to the Keicho Mission to Europe” which is designated as a UNESCO’s Memory of the World.
The Miyagi Museum of Art exhibits a collection including artwork from Miyagi Prefecture and the Tohoku region.
Sendai Mediatheque, a masterpiece of the world famous architect Ito Toyo, has very unique architectural characteristics.
Sendai Umino-Mori Aquarium, opened in July 2015, reproduces the coastal sea of Tohoku.
