Zao Fox Village
Zao Fox Village
Zao Fox Village is Japan’s largest fox-themed zoo, located in an hour drive from Sendai. More than 100 foxes live free-range in a garden surrounded by nature, and you can watch foxes without a fence in between.
Visitors can enjoy attractive programs such as feeding the foxes and photo shoot with the foxes. In addition, there are other animals such as rabbits and goats that you can also interact with. In recent years, as word-of-mouth spread, more and more international tourists have come to visit this unique attraction.
In spring, the hug a baby fox experience is available, which is a world-exclusive activity to Zao Fox Village. All the foxes are checked for Echinococcusis (a parasite common to foxes), so you can enjoy physical contact with the foxes safely.
To get there by public transportation: Take a bus from JR Shiroishi Zao Sta. to Zao Fox Village. The bus operates 5 days a week (except on Wednesday and Thursday). Refer to the link below for details.

How to Enjoy the Fox Village
The foxes are allowed to run loose in their range, as they have been tested for diseases. You, therefore, can safely enjoy the special experience of observing the foxes from an appropriate distance.
However, be sure to follow the rules below during your time at the Fox Village.
- Do not touch the foxes
If you try to touch them, they may bite. Therefore, please enjoy watching the foxes without touching any of them. - Feed them only inside the designated feeding area
Please help us by not feeding them outside the feeding area, as they will learn to jump on humans if people continue to feed them. - Don’t drop any of your belongings
Foxes have the tendency to break and bury objects they find on the ground, so make sure not to drop anything. - Do not sit or crouch down
Spending a long time at eye level with the foxes is dangerous, as they may gather and act aggresively towards you.
