Akiu Winery
Akiu Winery opened in December 2015 and is Miyagi Prefecture’s only wine maker with a mission to “connect and nurture people, place, culture and business”. The owner established the winery here because the Akiu Onsen area has good access to central Sendai as well as other areas in Tohoku, and of course has a climate and natural landscape good for growing grapes.
The current products consist of are four wines: a red wine with slightly bitter taste (12% alcohol), a slightly sweet rose wine (11.5% alcohol), a bitter cider and a sweet cider both made from apple (both 6% alcohol). They are planning to start producing wine made from their own grapes.
In the winery you can enjoy a factory tour, tasting, shops and a café.
